Fresh from its latest appearance at the World Darts Championship, the Ally Pally wasp has been running amok at the Masters snooker.
There were astonishing scenes during the first round match between eighth seed Mark Williams and David Gilbert on Tuesday night as the pesky insect decided to take centre stage mid-frame with Williams at the table.
The former world champion did his best to fight off the wasp. After initially trying to bat it away, Williams stood still as it landed, in the words of commentator John Parrott, in a “rather delicate position” near the top of his trousers.

The Welshman, who went on to win the match 6-2, then decided to go on the offensive, aiming a kick at the wasp. The referee then suggested to Williams that he sits down in the hope the invader would “ignore him”.
After dancing out of the way to dodge it, Williams jokingly picked up a towel and twirled it around, prompting more laughter from the audience.
But Williams wasn’t the wasp’s only target. It settled on a cameraman too and there were incredible scenes as the referee tried to hit it with a towel while saying to the operator “don’t move, don’t move”. Cue more laughter.
Parrott then suggested: “I think someone needs to invest in a can of something so they can spray it.”

Fellow commentator Steve Davis then quipped: “They don’t get this at the darts, do they.”
Well, that’s not strictly true as the Ally Pally wasp made an appearance at the recently concluded World Darts Championship. Its most infamous invasion occurred during the first match between David Cameron and Richie Edhouse.
The wasp kept landing on Cameron’s shoulder with referee Russ Bray attempting to flick it away at one point. However, the insect proved to be a good luck charm for Canadian Cameron, who fought back from two sets down to win 3-2.
The Ally Pally wasp has become so infamous, several Twitter accounts have even been set up in its honour.
