NEW DELHI: Out-of-favour India opener Murali Viray, who last represented India in Test cricket back in December 2018 is now looking for ‘opportunities abroad’.
The 38-year-old in a recent interview shared the desire to play competitive cricket while taking a dig at the Indian cricket board, saying that the BCCI has failed to provide opportunities in India.
Vijay last played for India in the Australia tour in 2018. He was later axed after a poor run of form, never making back to the team. In Ranji Trophy, Vijay last played for Tamil Nadu in 2019.
“I am almost done with BCCI and looking for opportunities abroad. I want to play a little bit of competitive cricket,” Vijay told Raman on Wednesdays with WV, a weekly show on Sportstar.
“After 30 in India, it’s a taboo (smiles). I think people see us as 80-year-olds walking on street. The media should also address it differently. I feel you are peaking in your 30s. Sitting here right now, I feel I can bat the best way I can. But unfortunately, the opportunities were less, and I had to search for chances outside. I honestly feel as a person, you can only do what’s in your hand. You can’t control the uncontrollable. Whatever happened happened,” Vijay said.
Vijay has scored 3,928 runs for India in 61 Test matches and in 17 ODIs he has 339 runs.
In the Indian Premier League, Vijay has played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils and Punjab Kings.
He last featured in an IPL match for Chennai in 2020.
