Alone In The Dark Remake Revealed In THQ Nordic Showcase

Alone in the Dark Remake was announced today by Pieces Interactive (August 12, 2022) during the THQ Nordic digital showcase event for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and is described as a reimagining of the classic survival horror title.

This news comes shortly after a known leaker, the snitch left a hint about the game reveal 3 days prior to the event and was set in stone for the series when THQ Nordic announced that they acquired the rights for the IP back in 2018. In addition, a playable teaser named ‘Grace in the Dark’ will be available at Gamescom 2022 from August 24 to 28. It will act as a prologue to the main game and will star the character Grace from Alone in the Dark 2.

Alone in the Dark is a love letter to cult classic horror titles. Emily Hartwood joins private investigator Edward Carnby in looking for her missing uncle, and the search leads both of them to Derceto Manor. The manor is a home for the mentally fatigued, but it is also a home for strange residents, portals to nightmarish worlds, and dangerous monsters. Fans can play as Edward or Emily and uncover the mansion’s secrets from two perspectives, including completely different cutscenes and levels.

According to the press release, there is a talented team of individuals behind this new Alone in the Dark release. The story is written by Mikael Hedberg, cult horror writer of critically acclaimed games such as SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Legendary artist Guy Davis, who worked with Guillermo del Toro on multiple works, has contributed monster designs, and Doom Jazz legend Jason Köhnen provides an audio atmosphere fitting for the game’s twisted setting. The game still retains many of the Lovecraftian horror elements that the original story was loved for.

Alone in the Dark will allow you to enjoy many of its classic elements — exploration, puzzle-solving, and fighting monsters are the orders of the day — but it will also make full use of the PlayStation 5’s hardware arsenal to truly modernize the experience.
