Renault’s aptly-titled “Renaulution plan” presents big ideas for Alpine, a French sports car manufacturer, as it pivots toward a path of strategic development — one that seems to be aiming for its global expansion.

Backed by an ambitious roadmap, following a relaunch in 2017 and a reorganization in 2021, the company has outlined its strategy for the coming decade, which largely includes achieving global growth. Primed by the launch of new all-electric models starting in 2024, and the projection of breaking-even by 2026, the company says its global expansion phase is slated to begin in 2027 with one of the markets being the U.S. Alpine is aiming to penetrate new markets to boost sales and profitability, but north of the border, Alpine told Driving that nothing is confirmed yet.

The Golden Twilight of the traditional sports car is here
Alpine will be using its proprietary high-performance platform, the Alpine Performance Platform (APP), to develop seven new models by 2030. The APP platform’s flexibility, adjustable length, and width will facilitate the development of these diverse models. The new models will include a future roadster and the all-new A310, ensuring the company stays true to its sports car roots while embracing the electric vehicle era.

“Our goal is to expand from a niche segment brand to a fully-fledged global brand. By combining a larger range with international expansion, we target an operating margin over 10% by 2030, and thereby put our business model on a permanent footing,” explains Alpine’s CEO, Laurent Rossi.

The company also plans to collaborate with key partners, including Renault Group to co-invent the sports cars of the future. Other collaborations include Google for connectivity services and Verkor for high-performance made-in-France batteries. Its APP platform will harness the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) expertise of Ampere, Renault Group’s future electric and software pure player.
The sports car manufacturer is not losing sight of its racing pedigree either. Alpine plans to increase its exposure to motorsports, planning to participate in the 2024 World Endurance Championship with its own Hypercar, as well as boost its presence in Formula 1. To bolster this transformation, Alpine is also welcoming new investors, including Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners, and others.
Let’s hope Alpine deems Canada worthy of its early growth plans, mainly because we’d love the chance to head into one of its boutique openings filled with vintage A110s.
