Alton Towers confirms new £12.5million ride to open at the theme park

ALTON Towers is set to open a new £12.5million ride after getting the green light for the project.

The ride is due to be an indoor attraction, but not much else is known about it.

Although little is known about the new attraction, the words “new rollercoaster” and “new coaster” both appear in the planning application, providing a bit of a hint.

It is currently being referred to as Project Horizon,.

The ride will feature a 20 metre high and 71 metre long building, which people aren’t happy about.

The planning application for the project received several complaints, according to Stoke on Trent Live, who say Historic England and conservation officers are concerned about its location.

However Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have said that any problems caused by the ride will be “less than substantial” and will be outweighed by the benefits.

The land that the new ride will be built on is currently being used as a maintenance and storage yard, but was once home to The Mouse ride.

The application was recommended for approval earlier this week.

Before Project Horizon moves any further forward, there will be a new ride opening at the park this spring.

Guests will be able to experience the new ride, set inside a haunted house.

The Curse at Alton Manor will take visitors on a journey of twists and turns through a cursed manor.

While many details about the ride haven’t been released, it will include visuals and special effects that are designed to scare and surprise thrill-seekers.

Kate McBirnie, Head of Product Excellence at Alton Towers Resort, said: “The Curse at Alton Manor is no ordinary dark ride.

“It has all the components of a supernatural tale – it’s dark, compelling and promises some thrilling and scary moments along the way.

“Fans of eerie rides will certainly appreciate this one.”

The ride will be open to members of the public from March 18.

Meanwhile, Thorpe Park has also launched a brand new ride that will open this year.

And the designer of Nemesis explained why the tallest and fastest rollercoasters aren’t always the best.
