Manchester United transfer target Alvaro Morata is available for €35m (£29.6m) this summer but would command a ‘significant’ salary, according to reports.

United have been offered the chance to sign former Chelsea striker Morata as a solution to their goalscoring issues.

The 29-year-old Spain international spent two difficult seasons in west London and struggled to adapt to English football after joining from Real Madrid in 2017.

He left Stamford Bridge to join Atletico Madrid, initially on loan, but has struggled there too and has been deemed surplus to requirements, with the Spanish side sending him out on loan to Juventus in both 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Morata scored nine goals across 35 Serie A games last term as Juventus finished fourth in the Italian top flight, 16 points behind champions AC Milan.

United are desperate to bring in a striker this summer and have been linked to various players, most recently entering talks for Paris-Saint Germian’s Mauro Icardi.

Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic is also keen to join United this summer, according to reports, despite previous interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

United considered a move for Timo Werner before he joined RB Leipzig from Chelsea and pulled out of talks for Marko Arnautovic after facing backlash from fans.

Another striker linked to Old Trafford this summer is Cody Gakpo, but PSV have told United that he will not be sold before August 24 due to their crucial Champions League play-off against Scottish club Rangers.

It has been a rough start for new United boss Erik ten Hag, who lost his first game in charge last week as the Red Devils were beaten at home by Brighton.

He has been forced to deal with an unhappy Cristiano Ronaldo, who was strongly rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, although Ten Hag hinted on Friday that the Portuguese superstar has changed his mind and now wants to stay.

Meanwhile, there are beginning to be some murmurs of discontent around United concerning football director John Murtough after a disappointing window so far, according to reports.
