UFC legend Amanda Nunes has announced her MMA retirement.
‘The Lionness’ put on a flawless performance to beat Irene Alanda at UFC 289 before cutting off her gloves and confirming she is done with fighting.
Nunes appeared to be the better fighter in the first round but did eat a big punch from her Mexican opponent who is known for her knockout power.
However, Aldana didn’t offer much else over the course of five frames.
The Brazilian battered her on the feet and mixed in wrestling attacks which resulted in her ending the fight in the mount – the most dominant MMA position – looking for a finish.
Aldana survived the full 25 minutes but the judges scored the fight 50-44 50-43 and 50-43 in favour of the greatest female fighter of all time.
Before the result was announced, Nunes jumped out of the Octagon and for a brief conversation with UFC president Dana White that got commentator Daniel Cormier intrigued.
During her post-fight interview, the 35-year-old revealed she told the UFC boss she is retiring from the sport and explained her reasons for walking away at the top.
