UFC women’s featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was as confident as ever going into UFC 269
Ahead of her match with Julianna Pena at UFC 269, “The Lioness” Amanda Nunes took time to sit down during the UFC 269 media day press conference and answer questions. Where her answers initially started fairly neutral or even supportive to Pena, they slowly became more confident and more hostile.
It all started when a reporter mentioned to UFC women’s featherweight and bantamweight champion that Pena had said she had never been taken to the ground and tested from her back, which prompted Nunes to reply with “She’s delusional,” through laughter.
“So what about her best friend, Miesha Tate?” Nunes continued, “What about Sara McMann you know? Sara McMann almost beat her. Sara McMann gave up in the fight. If she didn’t give up she would’ve beaten Julianna. But I beat Sara McMann years ago, you know what I mean? So I feel like she can talk and do whatever she wants. She has to do that to be able to bring all the attention and I’m gonna tell her she can have all the attention she wants, all of it because Saturday’s my night baby! December’s my month, and nobody is going to take this belt from me.”
Nunes would later call Pena a “clown” as well, continuing to assert that Pena is just talking for attention.
Amanda Nunes then breaks down her plan for Pena in the Octagon
The very next question is about Nunes’ game plan going into the Octagon and whether or not it has changed since the fight camp originally began back in February. The reporter asked if Nunes planned to still end the fight on the ground, to which Nunes replied, “Definitely!”
“Julianna has all the holes for me to finish her, on the floor as well. Germaine [De Randamie] finished her, you know what I mean? Germaine De Randamie is a striker and finished Julianna Pena. I feel my game is way above all those girls she fought so we will see what happens. I just need a mistake for her, in a strike, in the floor. Whatever she is going to bring up, I’m going to have the answers and I’m going to finish the fight.”
