THIS pilot proved he goes above and beyond for passengers after returning a woman’s lost purse minutes before take-off – by flinging it out of the cockpit window.
Will Novak and his wife Veronica filmed the heartwarming handbag rescue mission at Heathrow Airport last Thursday.
The couple had arrived in London after making the gruelling journey to the UK from Pheonix, Arizona, for their dream holiday.
But amid the chaos of disembarking the British Airways flight, Veronica accidentally left her bag – with her passport inside – onboard.
The panicked pair decided to wait by the gate and flagged down the two pilots who had flown Airbus A320 across the pond for help.
Concerned they would be unable to get through airport immigration, Will and Veronica faced a race against the clock to retrieve the bag.
Luckily, Captain Will Rowlings had a eureka moment and came up with a simple plan to get it back before the BA plane departed on its next journey.
The quick-thinking pilot managed to help Veronica dodge the usual rigmarole for lost property by simply texting the crew on board.
He informed them about the misplaced purse as Will and his wife nervously watched the aircraft through the windows.
The plane was just seconds from pulling away for take off when cabin crew began scouring the rows for the bag.
Incredibly, a member of staff found the purse and rushed to hand it to the new pilot – who was seen victoriously dangling it out of the cockpit window.
He was forced to hurl the bag down to an airport worker waiting below, who coolly caught it as Will cheered from indoors.
The dad, who captured the moment on camera, can be heard saying: “That’s Veronica’s purse coming out of the plane!
“There’s Veronica’s purse, it’s getting dropped down! Amazing. She’s going to get her passport, what a day.”
To mark the memorable experience, a relieved Veronica then posed for a picture with her hero pilots while clutching her elusive purse.
She is seen beaming alongside Captain Will Rowlings and his First Officer in the terminal after the triumph, visibly thrilled that she had got her hands back on her bag and passport.
British Airways told Will and his family: “We’re delighted to hear you had a great flight.
“We’re incredibly proud of our colleagues and crew, and are thrilled to hear you had a great experience.”
Footage of the BA crew’s kind gesture has since gone viral on Twitter.
We previously told how an airline pilot was seen helping baggage crew on the runway load luggage onto a plane at Heathrow last year.
