Video shared to YouTube appeared to show Heard looking startled and take a slight stumble backwards as she and her ex-husband locked eyes as court broke for recess.

The clip shows Heard apparently recoiling in fear as Depp, who suffers from vision problems, appears to look in her direction before a security guard gets in between them to make sure they don’t come close to one another. Depp then turned away, gave a slight shrug and smiled.

During Heard’s two-day testimony this week, gummy bears and candy were seen in front of Depp, who was captured in court looking down or conferring with his legal team.

Last month, in a viral TikTok video, Depp was captured doodling and showing his work of art to his attorney Benjamin Chew. A TikToker, who claimed to be on #TeamJohnny, posted the clip with the caption, “Watch what he passes to his attorney.” So far, the snippet has notched over 1 million likes on the social media platform.

Before their close encounter in a Fairfax County, Va., courtroom on Thursday, Heard tearfully recounted harrowing details from her five-year relationship with Depp, including incidents of alleged assault and verbal abuse.

During her testimony this week, Heard painted a picture of an allegedly controlling and physically violent Depp, who, as he was known to the world as one of Hollywood’s biggest film stars, was a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde-like “monster” behind closed doors. The pair fell in love while they were promoting their 2011 film The Rum Diary together.

The first time Depp allegedly hit her was after she laughed at a tattoo on his arm.

“I had never been hit like that. I just stared at him. I didn’t say anything or react,” she said. “I just stared at him. He slapped me one more time, hard. I lost my balance and all of a sudden I realized that the worst thing happened to me that could happen … He just hit me.”

While onboard a 2014 flight from Boston to Los Angeles, Heard alleged that Depp kicked her from behind in a jealous rage over intimate scenes she had filmed with actor James Franco for a movie they were shooting together.

“No one did anything. I felt so embarrassed that he could kick me to the ground and no one would do anything about it,” she alleged.

Another time, Heard described Depp’s tantrum when he accused her of flirting with someone at the 2014 Met Gala in New York. In their hotel room after the event, the pair got into a physical altercation.

“Johnny shoved me and grabbed me by my collarbone. I think at that point I shoved him back. I remember he threw a bottle at me, it missed me, but it broke the chandelier,” she said.

“He shoved me down on the sofa and at some point he whacked me in the face. I think that was the first time (where I thought), ‘Is this a broken nose?’ I remember my nose being swollen, discoloured and red.”

Elsewhere in her testimony, Heard spoke about allegations that Depp abused her with a liquor bottle during an explosive fight in 2015 and threatened to “f—ing kill me.”

“I didn’t know if the bottle he had inside me was broken,” she said. “I couldn’t feel it. I couldn’t feel anything.”

A spokesperson for Depp called the Aquaman star’s testimony the “performance of her life” and promised his legal team’s upcoming cross-examination will “highlight the many fallacies Ms. Heard has now attempted to pass off as fact throughout her convoluted testimony.”

Heard’s rep responded in a statement shared with the Toronto Sun, in which they said, “If Mr. Depp was truly innocent, why has he repeatedly apologized to Ms. Heard and promised to put the ‘monster away for good?’”

On social media, some followers of the trial accused Heard of acting on the stand, accusing her of lifting parts of her testimony from films like The Talented Mr. Ripley.

According to NBC News, as of Friday, the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp appeared more than 8.3 billion times on TikTok, while #JusticeForAmberHeard had amassed only 30 million views on the social media platform.

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, claiming that her 2018 Washington Post op-ed defamed him when she described herself as a survivor of domestic abuse. The article never mentioned the Pirates of the Caribbean star by name, but Depp maintains the article implied he was the abuser and impacted his acting career. Heard has counter-sued for $100 million, arguing Depp smeared her by calling her a liar.

The trial resumes May 16.
