American Elm reopening Friday, two weeks after double homicide

American Elm is reopening for Mother’s Day weekend, two weeks after two of the restaurant’s employees were killed in a tragic double homicide.

The West Highland restaurant, located at 4132 W. 38th Ave., will reopen from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday this week and open for brunch starting at 10 p.m. on Mother’s Day this Sunday. Chef Daniel Mangin and the American Elm team have also curated a to-go brunch offering for $98, which is available to order by May 11 at noon online.

American Elm will then be closed May 15-17, but will resume service seven days a week for happy hour, dinner and weekend brunch on May 18. Reservations are available here.

Police are still looking for a suspect, or suspects, in the ongoing case of the deaths of Emerall Vaughn-Dahler, American Elm’s general manager, and Ignacio “Nacho” Gutierrez Morales, a prep cook. Gutierrez Morales, 58, had worked for the restaurant since it opened in 2019. He is survived by three children, Cinthia, 36, Johnathan 32, and Alex, 18. Vaughn-Dahler, 34, joined American Elm in June 2021 and is survived by her son, Michael, 12, and her husband, Andrew.

A GoFundMe campaign was posted last month to aid the victim’s families and exceeded its goal of $100,000 with a total of $150,993 raised. And on May 1, Hope & Pie hosted a silent auction and buffet-style dinner with more than 30 local businesses to raise funds for the families.

American Elm: Open Monday through Thursday from 4  to 10 p.m.; Friday from 4 to 11 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; amelm.com/; 720-749-3186
