Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has singled out AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao for particular praise despite the Chelsea target ending up on the losing side at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The west Londoners secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Serie A champions to leapfrog them in their Champions League group, with Graham Potter’s side now sitting second behind RB Salzburg.

Although it was largely a routine win for Chelsea, Leao stood out – particularly in the first half – and created the visitors’ best chance of the match with an incredible run just before half-time.

The Portugal international continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea, with the Blues making an enquiry in the summer window, and Aubameyang is a massive fan of a player who could perhaps become a team-mate in the future.

Asked what he made of Leao’s performance against Chelsea, Aubameyang told reporters: ‘He’s an incredible player, really impressive.

‘He’s very fast, powerful, he can make the difference at any time. Nothing else to say except that he is incredible!’

Aubameyang reiterated the attacking talent Milan have at their disposal and praised Chelsea’s rearguard for managing to blunt such a formidable front-line.

Asked how important it was to get a clean sheet, he replied: ‘Yes, really important. I spoke before with the guys, I thought they were amazing.

‘Everyone was winning duels. I think it was not easy because they have great strikers as well, so I think they did an amazing job.

‘A difficult team to play against, they play really good football. To tell the truth I didn’t expect them to be so strong, but I think we had the right intensity to beat them.’

Aubameyang netted Chelsea’s second goal after a brilliant cross from right-back Reece James, with the England international then putting the game to bed with a powerful near-post finish.

The Gabonese forward was full of praise for his team-mate afterwards and feels James has now firmly established himself as the number one player in the world in his position.

Aubameyang added: ‘For me he is the best full-back in the world at the moment. He’s doing a great job, he had a goal and an assist.’
