Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Tamil Nadu last week to inaugurate a new terminal building at the Chennai Airport, flag off the Vande Bharat Express train between Chennai and Coimbatore, and inaugurate several other infrastructure projects. The anti-Modi images are going viral in the backdrop of this visit by Modi to the state.
Amidst this we have noticed an image of a billboard erected in the middle of the road, featuring an image of PM Modi with the text “Modi No Entry” and “Stop” was widely shared online with the caption, “Come on start the music… Tamil Nadu loudly says #GoBackModi”
Fact Check
A reverse image search on Google led us to a story by The News Minute published on 9 February, 2019. The story carried the same picture, except the ‘Tamil Nadu’ text on the top. According to the report “PM Narendra Modi is all set to visit Guntur on Sunday for the first time after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) severed ties with the BJP a year ago. And exactly a day earlier, huge billboards have been erected in places around Guntur and Vijayawada, signalling the PM’s visit”.
A similar report by the Telugu 360 published on 10 February, 2019 can also be seen below. As per reports “Though no political party has taken responsibility for the act, TDP National Spokesperson Dinakar Lanka said that billboards indicate the anger of the Andhra Pradesh’s people.
Meanwhile, BJP demanded police action against the people who have put up the billboards. Police said that they have ordered the municipal authorities to remove the ‘objectionable’ hoardings, adding they are probing the matter to find out the motive behind the act”.
Multiple other news outlets reported on the anti-PM Modi billboards and hoardings that were set up in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the state in February, 2019. Such reports can be seen here and here
