Uber announced last week at the company’s third annual Go-GET product rollout a new feature called ‘Uber Boat’ which will allow customers to book a boat charter through the app for up to eight guests on the island of Mykonos in Greece starting this summer. “There’s nothing better than connecting with family, whatever that may look like to you,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said during the third annual product showcase held in New York. “That’s why this year we’re unveiling a suite of products that are rooted in connection.”
Available from mid-June to October, ‘Uber Boat’ will be an on-demand service users will be able to book a boat that is operated by a Mykonos licensed operator and available through the Uber app.
With travel to Greece expected to be at an all-time high this summer, ‘Uber ‘Boat’ comes at a perfect time and will offer Greek and foreign visitors a new way to explore and travel around the island.
“As easy as reserving a ride, you can reserve a boat direct in the Uber app,” Sarita Varouch, Uber general manager for Greece, said in the Uber Go-Get video. “Uber Boat gives you the ability to plan a day on the water. You can even see reservation details right in the app, making it an ideal way to visit Mykonos and tour around the island.” Prices will vary depending on the amount of stops the user will make. Each boat comes with a licensed captain, so no need to worry about driving the boat.
“We chose Greece because we are strongly committed to the country and want to help local operators take advantage of the strong opportunities that come from domestic and incoming tourism,” Varouch said in the video.
This is not the first time Uber has worked on water. Uber Boat exists in London with the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, but differentiates the two products by Uber Boat in Mykonos being a private charter versus a ferry service.
