And Just Like That… Everything I know about Carrie Bradshaw has changed. In the original Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character wasn’t particularly political. When she dates a piss-play-loving comptroller played by John Slattery, she supports him at campaign events but makes no mention of having voted for him or any other politician in her life.
As far as beliefs, she tells us she was “raised in the church of ‘Be nice to people and don’t talk with your mouth full.’” We know she’s your basic NYC liberal (gay best friend, abortion in her past), but it’s hard to imagine her, like, at a march. (And Big was for sure a Republican — sorry, but it’s true.)
That was then; this is now. And Just Like That… season one explained that the Trump era inspired Miranda to go back to school so she can help immigrants and other marginalised people, while Charlotte became aware of (and embarrassed by) her friend group’s whiteness, and learned about being woke and how gender is a construct from her kids.
Carrie was sorta left out of going left, but a new picture from the set finds her carrying a tote bag with…the names of Democrats taped on?
Standing on the street in New York in fall layers to film a scene for season two, Parker carries under her arm a copy of The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams by Stacy Schiff and in her hand a Bloomsbury tote bag covered in pink duct tape (this probably doesn’t mean anything, but it looks like The Revolutionary is not a Bloomsbury title, so maybe the duct tape is to cover up the name during a meeting??? I’m stretching here).
On the duct tape are the last names and states of US politicians, all Democrats: (Tim) Ryan of Ohio, (Catherine) Cortez-Mastro of Nevada, (Val) Demings [not Demmings] of Florida, Beto (O’Rourke) of Texas, (Michael) Bennet of Colorado, and (Lauren) Underwood of Illinois.
