Nine years ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Andrew Wiggins with the No. 1 pick. However, they traded him for Kevin Love after LeBron James returned home.
The move was widely seen as a direct response to signing James, who omitted Wiggins when discussing new Cleveland teammates in a Sports Illustrated essay. However, Wiggins doesn’t carry any gripe toward LeBron.
“It’s the business side of basketball. You can’t have any hard feelings toward anything,” Wiggins told Sportsnaut’s Mark Medina. “People get traded all the time. At the end of the day, they have a ring and I have a ring. It worked out.”

Wiggins spent over five seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before getting sent to the Golden State Warriors in 2020. He’s since upped his scoring efficiency and played a pivotal role in last year’s championship run.
Wiggins declined to take the same route as Memphis Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks, calling James “one of the greats” and saying he’s “got to respect” him.
He also admired the superstar’s business acumen.
“LeBron has made a lot of great choices. That’s one thing I know a lot of young guys look up to him for,” Wiggins said. “I just want to set myself up where I have money coming in when I’m done playing basketball. A basketball career doesn’t last very long.”
The Warriors are currently down 3-1 to LeBron’s Lakers in a second-round series that could end Wednesday night. Wiggins and Co. will look to avoid elimination in Game 5, which starts at 10 p.m. ET on TNT.
