Premier League title race: Man City stretch lead at top
Andy Robertson confesses the “gap is too big” for Liverpool to think about challenging Manchester City for the title despite their convincing victory over Brentford.
The Reds beat the Bees 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino.
Robertson set up Oxlade-Chamberlain’s 69th-minute header with a whipped cross from the left to pick up his sixth Premier League assist of the season.
The result saw Liverpool leapfrog Chelsea into second and cut the gap on leaders City to 11 points, while Jurgen Klopp’s side also have a game in hand on the defending champions.
But Robertson admits he and his teammates cannot dream of the title and claims their sole focus must be on securing “as many points as possible” to keep the pressure on the Sky Blues.

“Man City are a fantastic team – one of the best in Premier League history – we have closed [the gap] a bit, but we have to concentrate on winning games,” the left-back said, per BBC Sport .
“The gap is too big to be looking at for the moment. We are up against one of the best and we will give it a go and try and pick up as many points as possible.”
Although he refused to get carried away about the title race, Robertson was impressed by Liverpool’s professional display and believed the margin of victory could have been greater.
“Every team who has managed to get points off Brentford has had to be patient. They are a quality, well-organised team,” the Scotland captain said.
“We had a good few chances in the first half and we knew we could hurt them potentially on set pieces. That goal settled the crowd and I thought in the second half we were pretty dominant.
“It could have been a couple more. Diogo Jota hit the post, Bobby Firmino had a few chances.”
Liverpool had over two-thirds of possession against Brentford and outshot their visitors by 27 efforts to six.

Fabinho opened the scoring just before half-time with a back-post header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner, while Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal to double the lead was created by Robertson’s sublime delivery.
On his assist, the former Hull City star said: “Alex told me that he was getting the run at the back post if I hit it early, so he would have got an earful if he wasn’t there for it!”
Liverpool return to top-flight action next Sunday with a trip to Crystal Palace. In the meantime, they face Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final after the first leg ended goalless.
