Ange Postecoglou has earned hero status among the Celtic support after a successful first 18 months in charge of the Scottish champions.

But the Australian manager was an unlikely saviour when he came to the aid of a driver whose car was stuck in heavy snow near the club’s training ground amid an amber weather warning.

The incident took place on Friday morning when Postecoglou spotted the vehicle on his way into Lennoxtown as he prepares for Celtic’s Premiership return on Saturday.

The 57-year-old then got out of his car to assist the rescue operation and helped push the car to safety.

Twitter user Michael McDonnell caught the moment on camera and posted it online, saying: “Someone stuck in Lennoxtown, I jump out to help and big Ange came out as well before anyone. Man of the people!”

The tweet has nearly 5000 likes and over 500 retweets since it was posted at 9am on Friday.

Premiership leaders Celtic are set to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday in their first game back since the mid-season break.

They will be looking to regain their nine point advantage after Rangers cut the gap to six with a 3-2 win over Hibernian on Thursday.

An amber alert for snow covering Glasgow and much of the central belt has been issued by the Met Office.
