Thousands of Angelenos celebrated Earth Day over the weekend, from tending to our open spaces in hope of attracting and helping monarch butterflies breed, to groups who cleaned up litter-prone areas near the Los Angeles River for the second weekend in a row, to artist-driven gatherings like the bash thrown in Topanga Canyon by the local well-being organization We Are the Medicine.
Marc Erickson, CEO of We Are the Medicine, spoke to attendees on a beautiful and warm Sunday, April 23, during his performance at the family-friendly outdoor getaway. The laid back crowd enjoyed creative works on display by local artists, musicians, “breathwork,” and loads of vendors. .
Popular musicians set a friendly mood, including Layv, who wowed the crowd with his West African harp and beautiful tunes. For those looking for something different to eat on Earth Day, Estevan Diaz offered acai bowls — or celebrators could buy the ingredients and try it at home. Another popular refreshment at We Are the Medicine’s event was Bright Amesi’s healthy juice bar, served up with Amesi’s friendly greetings.
