Ann Widdecombe blasted for recital of Holly Willoughby’s This Morning speech

Former politician Ann Widdecombe decided to recite Holly Willoughby’s statement from Monday’s episode of This Morning in which she addressed her former co-star Phillip Schofield’s exit.

During the now infamous statement, Holly opened by taking a “deep breath” and asking ITV fans: “Firstly, are you OK?”

“It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil,” she added.

“And I imagine you have been feeling a lot like I have: shaken, troubled, let down.”

Ann, 75, recited that part of the statement word for word but she ended up criticising the grammar Holly used.

When host Jeremy Vine asked who the statement was read by originally, Ann replied: “Somebody called Holly Willoughby.”

“The grammar was awful,” Ann fumed. “It’s not like I have it’s as I have. Like goes with a verb, as goes with a noun.”

Channel 5 viewers flocked to Twitter to hit out at Ann’s bizarre move to recreate the statement.

Simon Lee shared: “You need to get rid of her, she is rude, vile and antiquated.”

@23Mork said: “I like Ann but she should not have joined in with this bullying.”

Sarah B added: “What’s happened with being kind? Why must we discredit, laugh at and belittle people just because they’re in the public eye? Very disappointing @theJeremyVine.” (sic)

Robbie Wood fumed: “When will you stop inviting Ann Widdecombe onto this show, she’s a horrible woman?”

Other viewers enjoyed Ann’s recital, with Essie Mac penning: “I absolutely love Ann!”

Another social media user called @Greenday quipped: “Ann actually read it much better.”

Holly has reportedly vowed to never discuss Phillip publicly again after admitting his television career was over in a BBC interview after lying about his affair with a younger male colleague.

Phillip and Holly worked alongside each other on This Morning for the past 13 years.

The Jeremy Vine Show airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5.
