Anne Hathaway Explained How She Accidentally Re-Created That ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Scene

Andy Sachs famously steps away from the fashion world at the end of The Devil Wears Prada, but Anne Hathaway has embraced her role as a style star. She was happy to revive the character for a night, even if it was by accident.

While talking to Savannah Guthrie on Today on October 12, the Oscar winner acknowledged that she’d inadvertently dressed as Sachs during New York Fashion Week last month, when she wore a brown crocodile coat, turtleneck top, and skirt paired with thick bangs, and a high ponytail to the Michael Kors show. What’s more, she was sitting next to Anna Wintour, the alleged inspiration for the titular devil and played to perfection by Meryl Streep in the movie. It really seemed like a deleted scene come to life.

“It was kind of nuts, wasn’t it?” Hathaway said. “It was by accident. I was supposed to wear something else — the shoes didn’t fit — this was the other outfit that came, and then my hairstylist, who was so lovely and I’d never worked with him before, just said, ‘Oh, I know what to do!’ And he threw my hair up in a ponytail. I looked in the mirror and I thought, Oh, that’s funny, I wonder if anybody will notice. They noticed!”
