NBA legend LeBron James caused a stir on Monday evening when he didn’t commit to playing the 2023-24 season.
He said he was going to take some time and evaluate some things after the Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
Few around the league expect him to actually call it quits, including an NBA executive from the Western Conference.
“He’ll suit up next year,” the executive told Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus. “He just changed the conversation. Now we’re not talking about a sweep; we’re talking about LeBron and retirement. He loves to control the narrative.”
Another executive told Pincus to “give it a week” and see if he’s saying the same thing.
The Lakers would obviously look a lot different next season if James retired but it’s still not the likeliest scenario. He still has a lot left in the tank and has publicly said that he wants to play one season with his son Bronny once he makes it to the NBA.
Those two points will definitely be at the forefront of his mind over the coming weeks as he mulls this decision.
