Ant-Man 3 Producer Praises Kang The Conqueror Actor Jonathan Majors

Jonathan Majors has already made his first appearance as a variant of Kang, but Ant-Man 3 is going to be a whole new ball game.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is almost ready to delve fully into the Multiverse Saga with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and while speaking with ComicBook.com recently executive producer Brian Gay touched on the upcoming movie and in particular its incoming villain.

With Phase Four of the MCU coming to an end with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Phase Five will kick off with Paul Rudd’s return as the size-shifting hero, who will be coming up against one of the most formidable variants of Kang the Conqueror seen yet. Gay discussed the arrival of Kang and praised actor Jonathan Majors, who is about to bring one of the most extensive Marvel villains to life. He said:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Jonathan is a phenomenal actor and comes in prepared and so thoughtful, and I think part of the fun is that we got someone who is so talented that he can play as they say in Loki, the low keys and the high keys, and go across the whole range with him. I’m so excited for everyone to see the incredible work he’s done. I think that he’s an incredible presence on the MCU. And when he steps on screen, you know that Kang is there. He gives that embodiment and that gravitas that’s so focal to that character.”

Kevin Feige Has Previously Teased Kang’s Arrival

The last few months have brought a number of Marvel reveals, and that his included the first footage from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Although the trailer has yet to be released generally, Kevin Feige has already talked about how Quantumania will be the first step towards the culmination of the Multiverse Saga in Avengers: Secret Wars, and how the torment of the multiverse is perfectly fine in the hands of Jonathan Majors. The Marvel President said:

“It comes down to the cast and with Jonathan Majors, who I think took over the Hall H stage, you know, in the three minutes he was up there. It’s amazing, and I said to him there’s nobody’s shoulders I’d rather be putting the multiverse saga on than his. It’s really impressive what Jonathan Majors is able to do and all the different incarnations, variants, if you will, of Kang that we will see him do. It’s really pretty cool. What I love is that he’s totally different from Thanos. That he is completely different. That it’s not just how about there’s a bigger purple guy with a helmet? That’s not what Kang is. Kang is a very different type of villain and the fact that he is many, many different characters is what’s most exciting and most differentiates him.”

There have been plenty of fans who have been a little disappointed with the slow pace of the MCU’s Phase Four, but coming in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, the franchise needed a little time to take a breath and regroup. That comes to an end in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which comes with its own emotional angle of addressing the death of Chadwick Boseman and the loss of his character T’Challa, and the Multiverse Saga really gets underway in 2023.
