In case your Valentine’s Day is looking calm this year, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have you covered with a special edition of Verzuz featuring R&B legends Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild.
The announcement was made via the official Verzuz Instagram where it was revealed that the event will be taking place live at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles.
“Gearing up for love day, VERZUZ—the streaming series launched by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland—reveals the details for its first-ever Valentine’s Day Special,” the press release reads. “Two of R&B’s most notorious crooners GRAMMY® Award winner Anthony Hamilton and GRAMMY® Award nominee Musiq Soulchild square off live from Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.”
The two music giants have dense catalogs to work with. Hamilton has won a Grammy, and Soulchild has been nominated for the award over a dozen times. The brand of love R&B music that Soulchild and Hamilton make also complements each other.
The new live format that the Instagram battle series has adopted has shown to be very successful in previous match-ups. The now-iconic bout between The LOX and Dipset at Madison Square Garden this past summer is one of the first that comes to mind, with the battle creating several viral moments that are still being replayed today. With Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild both being masters at their craft, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them create a viral moment together as well.
