Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte agree to “settle the score” during meeting

Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua discussed a potential rematch after the heavyweight rivals bumped into each other.

Whyte is just over a week on from his knockout loss against Tyson Fury in their world title fight at Wembley. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ lost a tooth after a brutal uppercut in the sixth round from Fury that left him unable to beat the count.

Joshua is likely preparing for his own heavyweight title fight as he is pencilled in to rematch Oleksandr Usyk on July 23. ‘AJ’ lost his unified titles to the Ukrainian last September and has been expected to rematch him since, but the ongoing Ukraine crisis has caused uncertainty over the second meeting.

Whyte posted an Instagram picture of him and Joshua in conversation and revealed they were talking about fighting each other again once they can both get back in the winning column.

“Run in to my old foe Anthony Joshua talking about the rematch in the future and about finally settling the score once and for all,” Whyte wrote in the post. “But first we need to get back to winning ways.”

Joshua and Whyte’s rivalry dates back to 2009 when they fought each other as amateurs, with Whyte outpointed a then 20-year-old Joshua. ‘AJ’ stayed on as an amateur to compete in the 2012 London Olympics and win gold whilst Whyte turned professional in 2011.

Six years later and they met in the ring again, this time as undefeated professionals. Joshua had never been past three rounds, knocking out all 14 of the opponents he had faced, whilst Whyte was also unbeaten in 16 fights.

Joshua, who was the Commonwealth champion at the time, got his revenge by knocking out Whyte and ending his unbeaten run. Since then, both fighters have expressed interest in facing each other for the third time.

Whyte didn’t want Joshua in attendance at his latest fight and the Brit didn’t turn up anyway, jetting off to Dubai a day before the fight. Whyte thinks Joshua’s rematch with Usyk is a must-win for him as he told The Sun : “He needs to focus on what he has to do because if he doesn’t beat Usyk then where does he go?

“Now is the best time to face Usyk, who knows where the poor guy’s head is at. If you can’t beat Usyk now – with what he has been through – then you never will. I don’t want Anthony Joshua to retire because I want to fight him again.”
