Anthony Joshua is known for being calm and respectful, even when dealing with brash opponents, but that should not be mistaken for being a pushover – as a group of Loughborough students found out.
According to The Sun, the two-time heavyweight champion was walking through Loughborough University, where he has relocated his training camp, having previously spent the entirety of his career in Sheffield.
At that time, a group of drunk students began shouting abuse at Joshua from what they thought was the safety of their halls of residence.
Joshua took issue with the heckling and decided to confront the students and he did not mince his words.
The British boxing star is said to have marched up to their flat to have a word with their hecklers, with Joshua saying: “Remember you’re running your mouth, because when I bring people up here and I start cracking your glass jaws, none of you will like it.
“When your jaws start breaking and people start chasing you out of this uni, none of you will like it.
“Watch your mouths because you don’t know who you’re talking to sometimes. I know, listen, all that public eye bulls***, I ain’t into all that.”
In the video on The Sun website, the students can be seen standing awkwardly in silence, a lot less brazen than a few minutes before when they had been shouting at ‘AJ’.
Joshua is currently in training camp for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, which is expected to take place on July 23rd in the Middle East.
In the first fight, Joshua was masterfully out-boxed by the Ukrainian who won by unanimous decision to claim the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world titles.
After the fight, ‘AJ’ was widely criticised for his game plan of trying to have a technical boxing match with one of the best technical boxers of this generation.
Joshua insists that he is ‘going back to basics’ for the rematch and he will be looking for the knockout.
