Anthony Joshua’s trainer Robert Garcia has branded AJ’s fight with Tyson Fury as ‘tougher’ but ‘less difficult’ than his clash with Oleksandr Usyk. The legendary coach believes the size and strength of Fury will present a different kind of challenge but expects Joshua to land more on The Gypsy King than he did against Usyk.
Speaking to FightHype, he said: “It’s going to be difficult, maybe like you said, tougher. But not as difficult. Usyk, his style being a lefty and making those angles that he uses that makes it difficult, tougher because much bigger stronger, heavier. Yes, it’s going to be a tougher fight just because of the size, the weight but Anthony has great speed, great power. So, I think he’ll land more on Fury than he was able to on Usyk.”
Fury and Joshua are set to face each other on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales with personal terms agreed upon by both parties. The fight will mark Garcia and Joshua’s second outing together after their split-decision defeat to Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
Giving his assessment of that performance, Garcia revealed his thoughts on how the Saudi showdown. “I’m very happy and proud of what we did and what Anthony did, you know myself and Angel Fernadez, we were both on the same page training Anthony and Anthony went out there did… not enough obviously because we didn’t take the win, but he did what very few expected,” Garcia continued.
“I think if we’re going through with this fight with Fury, I’m going to push him a little bit harder because you don’t know the fighter, you don’t know their body.”
