Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has revealed he had offers on the table from Juventus and Barcelona last month but opted to join Sevilla as he had given his word to the La Liga giants.

The Frenchman joined Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season last week, with Martial keen to play first-team football after starting just two Premier League matches for United this term.

Martial’s agent made it clear in January that his client wanted to leave Old Trafford and that news attracted a host of top European clubs.

The former Monaco held talks with Juventus and Barcelona before leaving the Theatre of Dreams but he spoke to Sevilla first and he’s revealed he couldn’t go back on his word to join the Spaniards.

‘Juventus tried to sign me,’ said Martial.

‘I was talking to my agent and told him I preferred to go to Sevilla. It was the best option for me and my family.

‘FC Barcelona talked to my agent, but as I said, I spoke with my agent and told him: ‘My priority is Sevilla’.

‘When I say something to someone, I don’t change it. I keep my word.’

Martial was allowed to leave before the arrest of Mason Greenwood, while Jesse Lingard is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Frenchman could therefore still have a future at United but he’s suggested he could stay at Sevilla.

‘At the moment, we are only here [Sevilla] for four months,’ said Martial.

‘I have a contract with Manchester United but as I said before, in football, you never know.’
