Shortly after the original tweet appeared by the AP Stylebook, an influential guide for English grammar usage across major newsrooms, Twitter users responded with a mix of jokes and outrage that had “the French” trending on the social media platform.
The following day, the Associated Press responded to the uproar by saying it would update the original tweet.
