TL;DR
- Apple has set the iPhone 14 launch event for September 7.
- The event will feature in-person attendance, a first since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
- Apple could also launch other products — including a possible iPad — during the show.
September is almost always the launch month for the latest iPhone. Speculation has been running wild over the past few weeks on whether or not Apple would stick to this trend in 2022, and now we finally have an answer.
According to an invitation sent to Android Authority, the iPhone 14 launch event will take place on September 7, 2022, at 10:00 AM PT (1:00 PM ET). As usual, the event will be livestreamed from the usual sources so you can watch along at home.
However, according to Digital Trends, Apple is also sending out invitations to select media sources for an in-person event at the same time. This means Apple is having at least some in-person attendance for this launch event. This hasn’t happened for a product launch since 2019 and the launch of the iPhone 11 series.
Of course, the reason Apple went all-virtual for product launches was the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s interesting to see Apple bringing back in-person events even as COVID cases are on the rise. However, it’s possible the company is doing some sort of limited-attendance setup or otherwise taking extra precautions. Either way, you can expect a truly live iPhone 14 launch event in front of a live audience, as opposed to the pre-recorded events we’ve seen over the past few years.
iPhone 14 launch event: What to expect?
You shouldn’t expect too many huge changes for the iPhone this year. It’s likely Apple will kill off the “Mini” line and opt instead to roll out a larger version of the regular iPhone. That would mean a vanilla iPhone 14, a larger variant of that phone, an iPhone 14 Pro that’s around the same size as the vanilla iPhone 14, and an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple could also launch other products during the event, including a possible 10th-Gen iPad. Stay tuned!
