CUPERTINO — Apple is eyeing a brand-new Cupertino office building that would replace an older office at that site, a fresh indication of the tech titan’s commitment to expansions and its foothold in Silicon Valley.

The iPhone creator wants to develop a four-story modern office building that would total 282,300 square feet, a project that would sprout on a 7.9-acre site at the corner of Vallco Parkway and North Tantau Avenue next to Interstate 280, according to documents on file with Cupertino city planners.

Apple intends to replace an existing building that totals 141,000 square feet, according to the project proposal filing.

The new development would consist of 280,000 square feet of offices and 2,300 square feet of retail or restaurant space, the planning files show.

“Currently, the project site, located at 19191 Vallco Parkway in Cupertino, is occupied by Apple as part of its Vallco Parkway Campus,” according to a report prepared by Fehr & Peers, an engineering consultant.

At present, the building could accommodate somewhere around 500 to 700 workers, based on typical planning guidelines pertaining to square feet of office space for each employee.
