‘Approachable’ Sophie Wessex stuns in ‘down-to-earth’ floral dress at today’s garden party

Buckingham Palace’s garden party season is upon us, but this year, the Queen will not be in attendance. The monarch has given other members of the Royal Family the reins as different individuals host each party. Today, the Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl of Wessex, and Countess of Wessex were put in charge. Princess Alexandra was also in attendance.

Sophie looked elegant in a simple but summery floral dress.

The dress had long sleeves, which were slightly puffed near the cuffs, and a flowing, pleated skirt.

The skirt reached Sophie’s ankles and looked light and breezy – perfect for the warmer weather.

Sophie’s dress was white but adorned with blue, pink, black, and grey flowers.

This was the case during Sophie’s royal tour of the Caribbean last month, where she visited Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda with her husband, the Earl of Sussex.

The Countess were countless floral dresses during the week-long tour, prompting royal experts to compare her style with Kate Middleton’s, who had visited the Caribbean a month prior.

Judi continued: “Kate can’t help but look glossily special and impeccable.

“Watching her dazzle in her evening gowns or stand looking immaculate on that royal Land Rover, you’d tend to forget the Kate who threw on shorts to join in the boat race.

“She looks like the royal you’d get the best china out for while Sophie looks like the royal who might stay to help with the washing-up.”

Today, at Buckingham Palace, Sophie paired her floral dress with a black and white hat.

The base of the hat was white and beret-like, made from a straw-like material, while its top was decorated with black ribbon and two feathers.

The Countess carried a cream envelope clutch bag with blue finishes, matching the blue of her dress.

Sophie’s blonde locks were tucked in a neat bun underneath her hat and she wore minimal make-up, except for a little eyeshadow and a subtle pink lipstick.

Lashings of mascara were also swept over her eyelids.

Sophie’s hat was by Jane Taylor, the same as Kate’s hat, and her bag was from French-born Italian-based designer Sophie Habsburg.

Her earrings were shaped in the infinity symbol and covered in tiny diamonds. They were from jewellers G. Collins & Sons.
