Are David Genat’s modelling days behind him?

International model and reality star David Genat is no stranger to being in front of the camera, but he’s recently turned his attention to a new passion that sees him take a back seat.

The Perth-based father-of-three started his own production company, Stay Golden Enterprises, and his first project, called Free Rider, about his love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, drops on Friday on YouTube.

“My production is heading it up which has been a pretty amazing experience as well, but there’s a lot of pressure because I’m not just hosting, I’m also producing,” Genat told Perth Now.

Like many ideas of late it was born during COVID-19, in November last year.

“I had been lined up for a couple of shows on the east coast that I wasn’t allowed to travel for. So I was like ‘What am I going to do?’ I thought ‘You know what, I need to start making my own stuff’.”

He’s also presenting the show, though he admitted it wasn’t hard to act the part.

“The first episode shows what it looks like to get a brand new Harley. That’s when my bike was delivered . . . so that was quite exciting to film that because it was not much acting involved in that, it’s like genuine excitement,” he said.

The 12-part series will also see some of Genat’s mates, like fellow West Aussie and Survivor alum Locky Gilbert, join him on the road and share their “diehard” motorcycle moments.

“(It) started when I was three. And my grandfather was obsessed with motorcycles, but he had two bikes. He had a little postie bike, one of those retired postal service bikes and a Harley-Davidson,” Genat said.

“And I started riding, by him putting me in this little — he had like a little wooden box you put on the front of the postie bike and he would just ride around the yard when I was like three years old. And that’s my first memory of bikes and then going into his garage and just seeing this Harley which was his pride and joy and it kind of lit a fire in me.”
