Ariana Grande Is a Full-Blown Blonde Now

Ariana Grande is hard at work on the forthcoming Wicked musical movie adaptation, and it appears she may have changed up her hair in line with her character, the iconic blonde Glinda, aka the Good Witch of the North. In a new photo posted to Instagram, Grande showed off a fresh hair transformation, going from her usual brunette to a creamy vanilla blonde that feels very in line with the sparkly, optimistic Good Witch she’ll soon portray onscreen.

Her roots are a bit darker and ashier than the long lengths of her signature ponytail, giving the color a lived-in, natural look. “New earrings,” Grande captioned the picture, referencing her cute gold and pearl drops, but obviously the new hair is the centerpiece of the picture and the main topic of conversation in the comments. Grande appears to be mostly makeup-free in the photo, which is shot from the side, but it looks like her brows have been tinted to match the new hair color.

This isn’t the first time Grande has gone blonde. She’s tried out a plethora of lighter hair colors before, including several forays into platinum blonde and a set of ombré hair extensions that blended her dark hair with a cool blonde. She also stuck to a pale blonde color during most of her Sweetener era before going dark again for Thank U, Next. Grande may have given us a sneak peek at her Glinda transformation over the summer when she shared a throwback picture of herself with icy white-blonde hair from 2017 on Instagram Stories.

Obviously, we can’t expect the movie version of Wicked to stick to the examples set by the stage version, but Glinda has always been blonde, including the strawberry-blonde color Billie Burke wore in the 1939 movie. We still have about a year to wait for Grande’s debut as the Good Witch, but if this new hair color is any indication, her transformation is going to be extremely “Popular” with fans.
