Ariana Grande Poked Fun at Her Old Makeup Routine in a Very Y2K Manicure

We’ve all looked back at our younger selves and winced or laughed at our makeup obsessions, Ariana Grande included. The musician and Wicked star just reached back in time to tease her former self about her insistence on a certain makeup routine, all while wearing a very Y2K French manicure.

Grande hopped on TikTok with a trending sound clip from Keeping Up with the Kardashians, mouthing along to the dialogue as she applies her r.e.m. beauty At the Borderline Eyeliner Marker. “Do you think your eyes are a little too smoky for every day?” we hear Kim Kardashian saying to her mom Kris Jenner while Grande draws on liner. “I’m going through a phase, is that OK with you?” Jenner responds. Grande couldn’t resist poking fun at herself for her own makeup phases too. “Me to old me who wouldn’t dare be seen without a thick cat eye and over drawn [sic] lip,” Grande wrote over the video.

Grande may have toned down her cat-eye liner a bit over the years, but her wings are still razor sharp, as evidenced by her final result: a precisely lined eye with a satiny rosewood lip. The liner is obviously the centerpiece of her TikTok, but it’s her manicure that we really can’t stop watching. Instead of the soft American manicure currently trending amongst her celebrity peers, Grande went for a full-on white-tipped French, though she skipped the 2000s squared-off nail shape in favor of a more modern pointed oval. Given that anything and everything Y2K is currently trending hard, the resurgence of the French mani shouldn’t come as a surprise, and in fact, it looks to be a go-to of Grande’s; she wore a similar mani in a photo from April.

It’s fun to rediscover old trends with fresh eyes, so while Grande may be keeping her thick cat-eye liner and overlined lip in the vault for now, that doesn’t mean they’re gone forever!
