The University of Arizona men’s basketball team found themselves without a ride on Friday as a deadly storm system ripped through the Midwest.
The Wildcats’ flight on Friday night had to be diverted because of low visibility, and a fleet of Ubers were needed to ensure the No. 11 team in the country arrived in time for a Saturday night showdown with 7-2 Illinois.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, the Wildcats were on their way to the University of Illinois — Willard Airport when the visibility issues occurred. They circled around in the air and ended up landing in Indianapolis, about 130 miles away.
According to the report, the players and coaches piled into five Ubers that brought them to Illinois by about 10 p.m. local time. While the final price depends on demand, Uber’s website estimates one of the rides for the two-hour trip would cost about $135.
For the undefeated Wildcats (8-0), just getting to the State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill., might have been their most trying test of the season so far.
