Armando Broja has ‘two Premier League clubs’ chasing January transfer

Premier League interest in Chelsea striker Armando Broja is still rife, with at least two clubs maintaining their summer interest. And with his suitors circling, in case he becomes available in January, Chelsea’s transfer stance has come to light after Graham Potter took charge in September.

Broja was heavily linked with a Blues exit in the summer, with West Ham United fielding a bid worth over £30million for his signature. But Thomas Tuchel was adamant he wanted the 21-year-old to stay within his ranks after Romelu Lukaku completed his Inter Milan return on a two-year loan.

After Potter replaced the German at the helm just weeks into the new campaign, questions regarding Broja’s future at Stamford Bridge emerged. He has been tipped to leave on loan to return to the game time he received at Southampton last season, and there is high-profile interest.

According to CBS Sports, Everton and Newcastle United are monitoring Broja’s situation in the event he becomes available to sign on loan, even with no option to buy. However, Potter is giving the Albanian frontman minutes and doesn’t plan to let him leave, regardless of whether Chelsea bolster their attack in January.

Broja has featured in Chelsea’s last six Premier League games and all but one of their Champions League Group E fixtures. With the Blues all confirmed as group winners and therefore seeded for the last-16 draw, he could start Wednesday’s curtain-closer against Dinamo Zagreb.

His only goal this season came in Chelsea’s 3-0 Premier League win against Wolves in October, but he has started just one outing in all competitions and will be keen for a chance to impress from the get-go. In Potter’s squad, though, regular minutes are hard to come by, considering he is third-choice behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz.

If Chelsea recruit another striker midway through the campaign, Broja’s chances of a prominent role will look all the bleaker. Everton and Newcastle’s hopes of acquiring his services could rest on his desire to either stay and fight for his place under Potter or aid his development with regular football elsewhere.

Potter will want to keep his squad as strong as possible as he looks to replicate Tuchel’s incredible success after taking over during the 2020/21 season. But the Blues lie sixth in the league amid a poor run of results, and their priority will be maintaining their Champions League status for the ex-Brighton and Hove Albion boss’ first full campaign.
