Arnold Schwarzenegger was meant to be bringing back two of his most iconic movies for belated sequels with Twinscontinuation Triplets and action adventure The Legend of Conan. However, it seems that neither movie is currently in development, with Triplets having been scrapped following the death of Ivan Reitman, and the Conan the Barbarianfollow-up stuck in a rights limbo. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Schwarzenegger revealed in his usual candid style exactly where bother projects are right now, which is not in a good place. On his proposed reunion with Danny DeVito in Triplets, he said:
“Jason Reitman f*cked it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, “I never liked the idea” and put a hold on it. I’m developing another movie with Danny; he’s so much fun to work with and so talented.”
Although it has been a little while since the sequel to the 1988 hit comedy has been discussed, fans were still hopeful that the movie was just on a bit of a back burner following the death of Reitman. While it now seems that Triplets is off the cards, at least Schwarzenegger is keen on working on a different project with DeVito instead.
Turning his attention to the long-delayed Conan sequel, Schwarzenegger was a little more hopeful…but only a little. He said:
“It’s been pending for the last 10 years. [Fredrik] Malmberg owns the rights. He comes to me and says, “Oh, I have a deal with Netflix,” and when we ask Netflix, they don’t know anything about it. It’s one of those crazy things. I hope he figures it out. I think you do it like Unforgiven, where you play the age. There’s a great script out there that John Milius wrote, and others have written one. The story is there. There are directors who want to do it. But he has the rights, and until he sells the rights for one or two movies, or for the franchise, there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Started a Strong Relationship with Netflix.
Although Schwarzenegger fans may be a little disheartened by his latest updates, there is still plenty coming from the Austrian Oak to keep everyone happy, including what seems to be the start of a good relationship with Netflix.
Recently, Netflix unveiled the first trailer for Arnold, a three-part limited docuseries looking at the entire life and career of everyone’s favorite actor-turned-politician-turned-actor. In addition to this, the actor is also heading up his first scripted TV role with the streamer in the comedy-spy-adventure series FUBAR, which premieres on May 25.
