Arsenal star Granit Xhaka was forced to apologise and restart a post-match interview with BT Sport after dubbing the Gunners’ 1-0 Premier League win over Chelsea as “f***ing unbelievable”. A delighted Xhaka joined interviewer Des Kelly immediately after the final whistle and launched into an passionate X-rated assessment of his side’s performance.

The 30-year-old played a key role in Arsenal’s success, which takes them to the top of the Premier League. The north Londoners are now two points ahead of Manchester City, having exceeded all expectations this season.

Arsenal defeated Chelsea thanks to Gabriel’s second-half goal. The defender tapped home after Bukayo Saka’s corner had been driven across goal.

And Xhaka was clearly ecstatic at the final whistle, joining BT Sport’s Kelly for an interview. The presenter asked for the Arsenal fans’ favourite’s initial reaction, to which Xhaka responded: You see the atmosphere here, it’s f***ing unbelievable.”

Immediately realising his mishap, the Swiss then covered his mouth and added: “Oh, sorry!”

Kelly put his arm around Xhaka’s shoulder and offered an apology to viewers. He then turned to Xhaka and continued the interview, quipping: “That’s [take] one!”

Restarting the interview, Xhaka continued: “From the start until the end, we deserved to win. We were much the better team today. We are so happy things are going well at the moment.

“Listen, after the season, nobody asks you how you win in November, December and January. You try and get a lot of points as possible and after, let’s see where we end.”

The former Borussia Monchengladbach ace was involved in a late squirmish with Chelsea duo Trevoh Chalobah and Mateo Kovacic. He added on the rivalry between the two clubs: “Of course, it’s a derby. These two teams have big history.

Even when we play against each other, sometimes you need stuff like that.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised his young side for extending their excellent start to the 2022-23 campaign. The Gunners have won maximum points from all but two of their 13 top-flight fixtures so far.

The Spaniard said: “We want to get back at the top but the competition is so difficult in this league. The challenge was to come here against a top team and perform the way we did today. The boys did that.

“For such a young team, the maturity, composure, resilience and composure was phenomenal. To do it on the pitch against this opponents.

Winning in this stadium is an extra thing. It’s another step for this team that they can do it. We have to enjoy it because they deserve a lot of credit.”
