Arsenal and Man Utd retain interest in Tammy Abraham transfer despite huge blow

Arsenal and Manchester United are still showing interest in AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer, according to reports. That is despite the forward wanting to stay at the club.

It comes ahead of a huge few weeks for the Gunners in the transfer market, with Mikel Arteta looking to build upon last season’s fifth placed finish. One area he is likely to address is up front, with Alexandre Lacazette leaving for a return to Lyon.

That could have left the side without a first-team centre-forward, but Eddie Nketiah penned a new long-term deal with the club after a surge in form late into last campaign. However, he is just one option, with Arteta still looking to bolster his attacking choices.

On signing a striker this summer, the Spaniard said: “He puts the ball in the net – that’s priority number one. Goal threat. Any successful team needs enough goal threat in the squad. Without it, you have nothing.”

A number of high-profile players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Abraham being a name that has returned to the fore. The former Chelsea academy player scored 17 goals and assisted four in 37 Serie A appearances in his debut season.

It’s that form that has seen him linked with a return to England, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that both the Gunners and Manchester United retain interest in the England international. A blow to them, however, is that the report adds the 24-year-old is happy at Roma and has no intentions of leaving soon.

It may mean that both clubs have to look elsewhere when it comes to signing a goal scorer in the current market.
