Arsenal boss Arteta confirms two big injury blows ahead of Forest clash

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Martinelli will be out for the rest of the season. Arsenal will be without both players for their final two Premier League ties against Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Gunner’s away trip to Nottingham on Saturday, Arteta said: “They are both out for the rest of the season. Gabi [Martinelli] is a pretty nasty injury, we need to assess in the next week how long he will be out for and with Alex [Zinchenko] it’s a calf issue.”

Martinelli’s injury means he won’t have the chance to break the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League campaign by a Brazilian player. The Arsenal winger had equalled Roberto Firminho’s 15-goal landmark from the 2017/2018 season but will be left on the sidelines for the remaining two games after picking up an ankle injury against Brighton last weekend.

Martinelli had the injury inflicted on him by a tough tackle from Arsenal target Moises Caicedo, resulting in a substitution.

The injury appears to be a serious one with a full evaluation expected next week. Zinchenko, meanwhile, missed the Brighton game due to a calf injury he sustained in the previous match with Newcastle United.

The Evening Standard claims that the injury is not serious and that the Ukrainian will be back fully fit for the start of pre-season.
