Arsenal fans given transfer hope after Maddison’s ‘love it’ comment

Arsenal fans have been given some hope for the summer transfer window after James Maddison commented ‘love it’ under Bukayo Saka’s Instagram post celebrating his Young Player of the Year win at the London Football Awards. The Leicester playmaker has been linked with a move away from the King Power this summer and many of the Emirates faithful may want their club to join the race for his signature.

Maddison has been Leicester’s stand-out player this season in what has been a difficult campaign for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The 26-year-old has scored nine goals and contributed five assists in 19 Premier League games and the Foxes could be cut adrift at the bottom of the table without him.

However, his future in the East Midlands is in doubt with his current contract expiring in 2024. Leicester may be forced to sell him for a cut-price fee to avoid losing him for nothing in just over a year’s time and the possibility has attracted the attention of other sides in the Premier League. Newcastle United and Tottenham have already been credited with an interest and the race is only likely to hot up in the coming months.

Now, Arsenal fans have been given some hope that their club could join the chase in light of Maddison’s recent social media activity. The playmaker commented ‘Love it you’ under Saka’s post, hinting that he could be keen to link up with his fellow England star in the summer.

Of course, there are a range of other explanations for Maddison’s comment, most notably being happy for his friend. The duo both represented England at the World Cup in Qatar and are likely to have grown closer during their month away given they are both known to have outgoing personalities.

It remains to be seen what Maddison’s next career steps will be. Rodgers is desperate for him to sign a new deal at the King Power but conceded he would not ‘beg him’ to stay

“It’s a conversation we’ve been having with James’ representatives for a while so there’s no change in that, not that I’m aware of,” he told a press conference last month.“For me, it’s about making sure that, despite whatever the situation is, that James is playing at the best level he can be.

“He’s a top player in the league and he’s shown that in his time here, gradually from when he’s come in to the position he’s in now, you can see that development take place. I think that’s the type of club we are – we’ll develop players, we’ll improve players, we can give them great conditions to work in – but I won’t be begging for a player to stay.”
