Laurent Koscielny: Bordeaux FINALLY sign want away defender from Arsenal

After their shock elimination from the FA Cup on Sunday, Arsenal have the chance to bounce back in another competition on Thursday.

They will visit Anfield to face Liverpool in what is now the first leg of the League Cup semi-final between the two sides.

While manager Mikel Arteta made a number of changes to his team for the Nottingham Forest defeat, with Wembley within touching distance in the League Cup he will surely field an XI containing many more familiar names against the Reds.

EFL provide update on Liverpool investigation

The EFL have said they will not be carrying out an investigation into claims by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in relation to “false positive” Covid-19 tests in the buildup to last week’s rescheduled clash with Arsenal.

Klopp said what was initially thought to be an outbreak of coronavirus in the squad turned out to be a number of initial incorrect tests.

Eyebrows were raised at the suggestion and it was reported on Monday that some clubs had complained about the decision, with an investigation and possible punishment for the Reds on the cards.

But a statement from the EFL said they are content with the reasons put forward by Liverpool.

Bruno Guimaraes speaks out

Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has said he’s not surprised at transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

The Portuguese playmaker has been a standout performer for the Ligue 1 side since joining in 2020, with his ability to dictate play and shield the defence standing out.

Arsenal are among the clubs said to be interested in the 24-year-old and the man himself recognised the strides he’s made as a player as well as subsequent interest.

“It’s normal to be mentioned like this when you are an Olympic champion, have been called up for the national team and are performing well individually,” he said. “But I don’t really like to think about it. I let my agent manage that.”

Aubameyang spotted in Arsenal colours

It’s been a while since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been seen in Arsenal colours following his dropping from the team and sacking as captain.

The striker appears to have played his final game for the club while Arteta is in charge, prompting some speculation about a potential transfer in January or at the end of the season.

However, the striker is still clearly wearing his Arsenal jersey with pride, as he was pictured cutting around the team hotel in the famous red strip.

If Aubameyang was to move away mid-season then it would add to an already busy month for the forward, with the Gabon international taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, he missed their opening win against Comoros after testing positive for Covid-19.
