Arsenal are keen to hand Reiss Nelson a new long-term deal following the midfielder’s valuable last-second winner against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Nelson scored in the 97th minute to ensure Arsenal beat the Cherries 3-2 at the Emirates, having been 2-0 down with half an hour to go.
The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal had yet to hold significant talks with Nelson’s representatives.
But Saturday’s winner has thrust Nelson back into the limelight and clubs are once again aware of the midfielder’s talent.
The Daily Mail say Arsenal are now in talks with Nelson over extending his deal and there’s a motivation on all sides to reach an agreement.
That’s despite the fact that Nelson could sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs, while he would be available for free on the market in July.
Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his admiration for Nelson but the midfielder’s struggled with injuries this term.
After scoring twice against Nottingham Forest earlier in the campaign, Nelson suffered a thigh injury that has stunted his chances in the first team.
