Arsenal sent transfer message by midfield target Renato Sanches after AC Milan talks

Arsenal have been sent a transfer message by Renato Sanches after the Lille midfielder apparently turned down the opportunity to move to AC Milan. The Gunners have been linked with Sanches in recent months as he pushes for a move away from France.

Sanches appears to be heading for the Lille exit after the club’s president Olivier Letang said in October that the player could depart.

“If an offer from a big club arrives, he can leave,” said Letang.

According to Calciomercato, Milan have had a £21million offer for the player accepted – but Sanches has snubbed the move.

The Italian giants were keen to land the player as they saw him as the ideal replacement for Franck Kessie, who could be set to leave the San Siro when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

That means Arsenal could now be in the driving seat to sign Sanches.

On that occasion he also spoke about Milan before eventually rebuffing their approaches.

“Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know,” Sanches said last year.

“I spoke with my agent – I know which clubs are calling me but I can’t say right now.

“But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”

Sanches joined Lille from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019 and starred for the French side as they stunned Paris Saint-Germain to win the Ligue 1 title last season.

During his time with Bayern, he spent time on loan at Swansea City. He played 12 times for the Welsh side in the Premier League, but his season was hampered by a series of injuries.

Sanches failed to make the grade in Germany but admitted last year that his time in Munich came too soon and he is now ready to play on the big stage once again.

“When I arrived at Bayern, I was not ready to play in such a club,” Sanches said. “I was very young.

“And when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came.

“Today I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club and that changes everything.”
