Kai Havertz will undergo a medical at Arsenal this week with the German poised to become the club’s first signing of the summer.

The Gunners have agreed a fee of £65million plus add-ons for the 24-year-old who is eager to link up with Mikel Arteta in north London.

Personal terms have been agreed for the forward to make the move across the capital with a formal medical likely to take place in the coming days, Fabrizio Romano reports.

After leading Arsenal to a second place finish last season, Arteta is keen to expand his attacking options and Havertz’s ability to play in a number of different roles appeals to the Spaniard.

Chelsea have been eager to trim their bloated squad this summer with Havertz one of a number of high-profile departures.

N’Golo Kante has left the club following the end of his contract to Saudi side Al Ittihad while the Blues have agreed a £30million deal with Manchester City for Mateo Kovacic to join the treble winners.

Chelsea are also set to considerably fill their coffers with Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Kouliably and Hakim Ziyech close to joining Saudi Pro League clubs.

Arsenal remain in talks for Rice (Picture: Getty)

Arsenal meanwhile remain locked in talks with West Ham United in their attempts to sign Declan Rice.

The club have seen two offers rejected by the Hammers and are expected to return with a third offer and remain confident of luring him to north London.

However, Manchester City have now entered the fray and are preparing to make their first bid for the 24-year-old today.

Rice has been intent on joining Arsenal but City’s interest appears to have changed the landscape with reports suggesting the midfielder is open to any move with his future now depending on which side can agree a deal with West Ham.

Manchester United are also interested in the England international but are yet to make a bid.
