Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has suffered a blow to his hopes of offloading former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during this month’s January transfer window with Newcastle being warned off a move for the forward.
Aubameyang has been frozen out at the Emirates after being stripped of the captain’s armband and being made to train alone following a disciplinary breach at the beginning of December.
And after newly-rich Newcastle contacted the Gunners to discuss signing the striker over the weekend, former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino has warned the Magpies off the Gabon international.
It comes with Arteta needing to find a solution to the club’s striker problems now they are making do without Aubameyang and with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts both set to expire in the summer.
And one top referee has disputed some of the controversial decisions made during the Premier League encounter with Manchester City at the weekend.

Big calls ‘wrong’ in City clash
Respected referee Mark Clattenburg has raised further doubts over some of the refereeing decisions during Arsenal’s Premier League clash with table-toppers Manchester City on Saturday.
The Gunners felt they should have been awarded a first-half penalty when City goalkeeper Ederson appeared to take Martin Odegaard down in the box.
City were then handed a spot-kick themselves in the second half when Bernardo Silva went down under the challenge of Granit Xhaka, which Riyad Mahrez coolly equalised from.
Gabriel was then shown a second yellow card minutes after the equaliser for holding back compatriot Gabriel Jesus.
And Clattenburg, who refereed the Champions League final and European Championship final in 2016, has given his opinion on the controversial decisions.

Striker solution emerges
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is facing a huge decision over what to do up front with two of his first-choice options out of contract at the end of the season and a third currently frozen out.
It has led to suggestions that the GUnners may look to the transfer market to address the biggest issue within their squad with the club being linked with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak in recent weeks.
But a proper solution could be much closer to home – although it would require a massive transfer U-turn from the Asenal boss.

Aubameyang blow
Newcastle United have been warned off of signing former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a blow to Mikel Arteta’s hopes of shifting the forward this month.
The Magpies have cash to burn during this month’s transfer window and are expected to do business following their takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
But former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino doesn’t believe Aubameyang is the sort of player Newcastle need to help them out of their current relegation dogfight – he’s sent a strongly-worded warning to Eddie Howe not to bring the forward in.
