Mikel Arteta on summer transfer plans

Arsenal target Julian Brandt is set to ‘explore the market’ after being linked with a move to the Gunners.

The German playmaker was thought to be on Arsenal’s list of targets in the January transfer window but the move failed to materialise. And with reports suggesting he is set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, Arsenal could now have a chance to land the midfielder.

It comes as Mikel Arteta has accepted the impact Thomas Partey’s injury has had on his team is “unquestionable” as their bid to finish in the Premier League’s top four has faltered in recent weeks. And the Gunners manager has admitted things are very different now than they were a year ago as he spoke about the progress his side has made.

But Arsenal have had a turbulent few weeks after falling to defeats to Crystal Palace, Southampton and Brighton in April to hand Spurs a chance of overtaking them.

And Arteta has said it is “not good” for his side when Partey is missing – because the Gunners’ win rate is so much higher when he is in the side.

Brandt to ‘explore the market’

Arsenal could be handed the opportunity to finally land midfield target Julian Brandt this summer.

Brandt was thought to be on Mikel Arteta’s list of January targets, with reports coming out of Germany now suggesting his club Borussia Dortmund ‘no longer plan’ to have him in their squad next season. The player is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, which he has reportedly made his ‘primary goal’ this summer.

And that could hand Arteta the chance to finally land his man – who could be available for around £16.5million.
