Arsenal transfer news as Edu decides next two deals and new Martinelli targeted

Arsenal could be set to oversee one of the busiest transfer windows of their existence as they seek to mark their return to the Champions League in style. Mikel Arteta has already made it abundantly clear that he intends to use this season’s achievements as a platform to build upon as he targets a host of big-money signings to bolster his ranks ahead of the 2022/23 season.

It’s no secret that Arsenal are set to launch a club-record bid for Declan Rice at the end of the campaign while the Gunners are also after new recruits in defence and in attack.

There could also be a cluster of departures in north London with sporting director Edu keen to generate some additional cash to bolster Arteta’s budget.

While there is an overriding feeling of disappointment from Arsenal’s shortcomings in the Premier League title race, there is also confidence the club are now onto something special as they seek to close the gap on City next term.

Express Sport assesses the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip as the Gunners gear up for what could prove to be the busiest summer of Arteta’s regime.

Edu decides next two deals

Express Sport understands Reiss Nelson is close to signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal after months of talks with his entourage.

But there are also two other contracts on the agenda after Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale recently committed their long-term futures to the club.

That’s because Arsenal want Martin Odegaard and William Saliba to sign new deals and talks have already taken place with the Frenchman.

A number of clubs are believed to be following Saliba’s situation closely but there is internal confidence the Gunners will get it over the line despite delays.

Move for new Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on young Brazilian attacker Marcos Leonardo at the Under-20s World Cup, according to 90min.

European clubs have sent scouts to the tournament which historically, is a breeding ground for hot talent.

And it’s claimed Leonardo is a player of interest with Edu already well connected with clubs in his homeland of Brazil.

The Gunners have also been linked with Matheus Franca and Pedrinho in the past few days but Express Sport understands there is nothing in those claims at this moment in time.

£20m Sacha Boey demand

Arsenal will have to pay £20million to sign Sacha Boey from Galatasaray this summer, according to widespread reports.

The 22-year-old has impressed in Turkey since making the move from Rennes in 2021 and now he could be headed for the Premier League.

Galatasaray chiefs have been in London this week for talks with English clubs over some of their players.

Arsenal are believed to be informed on the situation but Express Sport has also learned that there is not much in claims the Gunners are hot in pursuit of the Frenchman at this moment in time.

Crystal Palace and Brighton have also been linked with the full-back, who could be set to land a big move this summer.
