Arteta ‘in pain’ after Arsenal miss out on Champions League

Arsenal’s competition in the race to sign Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus has emerged – with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti urging his club to bring in the forward.

The Brazilian’s time at the Etihad appears to be over, with Pep Guardiola’s side bringing in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and River Plate youngster Julian Alvarez also joining the club. Mikel Arteta had been eying Jesus to reinvigorate his forward line following the January departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah looking likely to leave when their contracts expire this summer.

But Madrid boss Ancelotti is now keen on Jesus after missing out on Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. It comes as Romelu Lukaku’s role in helping Arsenal land Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca has been revealed.

And Mikel Arteta is said to have promised Oleksandr Zinchenko the opportunity to play in his midfield if he joins the Gunners.

Real enter Jesus race

Carlo Ancelotti is urging Real Madrid to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus this summer in a huge blow to Arsenal’s transfer plans.

Despite leading the Spanish giants to their 35th La Liga title and the Champions League, Madrid were unable to sign Kylian Mbappe after he chose to extend his contract with Ligue 1 champions PSG for another three years. And that could lead Madrid to rival Arsenal for Jesus’ signature as an alternative option.

Lukaku to play key transfer role

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku could inadvertently play a key role in helping Arsenal land signing Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca.

The Italian forward netted 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last season, leading to reports he could be set for a big summer move. Arsenal have been one of the clubs linked with landing the player, while Inter Milan are also said to be interested.

But with Inter exploring the possibility of re-signing Lukaku this summer as a priority, reports suggest they are currently they are “not working to sign” Scamacca. And that means things could play perfectly into Arsenal’s hands should they decide to make a push for the signing.

Arteta’s Zinchenko promise

Oleksandr Zinchenko will be given a chance to play in midfield if he opts to join Arsenal ahead of the likes of West Ham this summer.

The Manchester City ace has made a name for himself at left-back in Pep Guardiola’s system but operates in the centre of midfield for his country Ukraine. But reports suggest he may be allowed to leave this summer in order to secure more regular first-team football and Arteta could take advantage to bring him to north London.

With West Ham said to be rivaling the Gunners for his signature, the player will have a big choice on his hands with twovery different roles on offer at the two clubs.
